The Montessori Experience

Fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking

MISSION STATEMENT

We are a community of compassionate Montessori educators who prioritize treating everyone with dignity and care. Our instructors create a calm and orderly classroom environment, encouraging the natural curiosity of each child. This is a safe space that fosters individualized learning and growth, inspiring students to explore creative and unique problem-solving approaches.

THE CURRICULUM LEARNING AREAS

A diverse array of subject areas awaits the child, offering a multitude of options for exploration and learning. These encompass Life Science, Physical Science, Earth Science, Geography, and History, along with Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, and Cultural subjects. With such a comprehensive selection, children have the opportunity to engage in a well-rounded education that encompasses various disciplines and fosters their holistic development.

PRACTICAL LIFE

These carefully designed exercises are specifically crafted to nurture the child’s coordination, order, sequencing abilities, confidence, independence, fine motor skills, and understanding of the significance of objects in their immediate environment. Through engaging activities such as removing and replacing parts, opening and closing, carrying, pouring, peeling, cutting, and washing, children will develop essential life skills. Additionally, they will be introduced to the importance of cleanliness, as they learn techniques such as cleaning, scrubbing, and fixing using various fasteners like buttons, zippers, snaps, ties, and latches. Furthermore, the curriculum encompasses valuable lessons on caring for others and fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment, instilling these principles within the child’s early education.

SENSORIAL

These captivating activities are designed to engage each of the child’s senses, encouraging them to explore and investigate the unique aspects perceived through sight, touch, sound, smell, and taste. By actively participating in these sensory experiences, children gradually transition from mere perception to conceptual understanding. They embark on a journey from specific observations to generalizations, ultimately fostering the ability to freely associate ideas.

LANGUAGE

As children grow, they begin by expressing themselves through speech before learning to read and write. Vocabulary enrichment exercises help them organize their world, expand their vocabulary, and enhance self-expression. Metal insets strengthen hand muscles for writing, while the moveable alphabet, phonogram board, and grammar boxes teach sentence analysis and parts of speech. The Montessori approach fosters comprehensive language skills, enabling children to communicate effectively and become confident readers and writers.

MATHEMATICS

Beads, spindle boxes, and number rods play a crucial role in guiding children from concrete to abstract mathematical thinking. Through the use of Golden Beads, children are introduced to the decimal system, a cornerstone of modern mathematics, once they have a solid grasp of the numerals 1-10. They engage in a wide range of activities, including decimal operations, linear and skip counting, and memorizing important combinations, facilitating their mathematical growth and understanding. These hands-on materials foster a strong mathematical foundation, enabling children to think critically and excel in their mathematical pursuits.

GEOGRAPHY

Children in Montessori education receive a well-rounded education that includes geography, exploration of other cultures, and an understanding of international relations. Engaging materials such as globes, puzzle maps, flags, and geographical land formations spark curiosity and facilitate learning about the world. Through these interactive tools, children develop a broader perspective, appreciate cultural diversity, and cultivate a sense of global awareness.

SCIENCE

Montessori education prioritizes experimental science, with a focus on botany and zoology. Students engage in hands-on research both inside and outside the classroom, fostering empathy for the environment. They explore the distinctions between living and nonliving objects, study plant and animal anatomy, and investigate various bodily systems. These young scientists make intriguing discoveries, igniting their curiosity and passion for scientific exploration.

MUSIC AND ART

Children are encouraged to unleash their musical creativity in Montessori education. Through hands-on experience with rhythm sticks, chimes, bells, glockenspiel, and xylophone, students develop their musical literacy. Art is also integral to the Montessori approach, fostering self-expression and creativity. Using mediums like watercolor, clay, finger painting, and collage, children explore and innovate, with emphasis placed on the process rather than the end result.

NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

All qualified students are warmly welcomed at Elena Montessori, irrespective of their race, color, creed, ethnicity, disability, or national origin. We hold a steadfast commitment to treating all students with unwavering respect and dignity in every facet of their experience. Our educational policies and programs are founded on principles of inclusivity, ensuring that there is no discrimination based on race, color, creed, ethnicity, disability, or national origin.
